铜鎏金金刚锤

A Bronze Vajra Hammer

 

清乾隆 Qing Dynasty, Qianlong period （1736-1795）

长（L）46.5cm；宽（W）13.8cm；锤径（Hammer’s Diameter）6cm

 

锤原为印度古代兵器，后被藏传佛教吸收成为法器。圆形铁锤头的上方和前方装饰金刚杵头。锤柄为中间粗、两端渐收的八棱形，中部为紫檀木，末端饰金刚杵头。

 

Hammer used to be a weapon in ancient India and was taken by Vajrayana Buddhism as an implement. In the front and upper sides of the round hammer head, there are Vajras. The long drum-shaped handle of the hammer is in octagon section; the middle part of the handle is made of red sandalwood; and the handle is ended with a Vajra.
